How to Bypass New Scientist's Paywall
Using a simple Chrome extension
Want to access premium articles on New Scientist?
New Scientist wants you to pay a subscription fee for their premium content (and rightly so). As a broke student who can't afford the $99 online subscription fee, it can be frustrating when soaking up a great article and you come to this message:
Step 1 - Download Chrome
If you aren't using Google's Chrome web browser, you'll need to head to their download page and download it for free on your PC or Mac.
It's a fantastic web browser in terms of capabilities, compatibility and features. Although it is slightly more taxing on your system's RAM compared to other popular browsers like Firefox and Microsoft Edge.
Step 2 - Add the Readability Extension
Readability is great if you're an avid reader on the web. Use their Chrome extension to turn any webpage/article into a clean and easy reading experience. It'll take the most important parts of the page and format it into something you can read with minimal distraction.
Once you've installed the extension, you should notice the Readability icon in the top right of Chrome.
Step 3 - Bypass their Paywall
Next time New Scientist prevents you from accessing the rest of a premium article, click on the Readability armchair icon on the top right of your window and click 'Read Now'
